Hughes, the inventor named in the patent in suit, sued Novi American, Inc., for patent and copyright infringement and other related charges. The United States District Court for the Eastern District of Michigan, following a bench trial before Judge Thornton, found the subject patents and copyrights invalid and not infringed.
