BILLINGS, Chief Justice.

The defendant entered a plea of not guilty to the felony charge of lewd or lascivious conduct with a child, in violation of 13 V.S.A. § 2602. Later, pursuant to a plea agreement in which the State promised to recommend a deferred sentence, the defendant pleaded nolo contendere to the reduced charge of committing a lewd act, which is a misdemeanor. 13 V.S.A. § 2632(a)(8). The court accepted the defendant's plea but reserved decision...
