On May 28, 1981, five-year-old Christopher Bonds was injured when he was struck by a van owned by Douglas Busler and driven by Busler's fifteen-year-old daughter, Brenda Busler. He was taken to University Hospital in Birmingham, where he remained for treatment of a concussion until June 2, 1981.
