The present appeals arise from the attempt of appellant, Bridgette Smith, to acquire legal custody of her stepson, Kalvan J.R. Smith. On March 13, 1979, Kalvan's natural parents, Paul Robert Smith and Theresa Elaine Smith, were divorced in Mecosta County Circuit Court. Custody of Kalvan was awarded to Paul.
