In this criminal appeal the sole assignment of error is defendant's allegation that the trial court imposed an excessive sentence which constitutes cruel and unusual punishment.

Defendant-appellant, James Colton, Jr., pleaded guilty to one count of armed robbery. The trial court sentenced Colton to confinement at hard labor for a period of thirty-five years in the custody of the Louisiana Department of Corrections without benefit of parole,...
