At trial, the People's case rested primarily on the testimony of four witnesses. Raymond Eaddy, an accomplice, testified that he drove defendant and others to the scene of the robbery, a hotel in the City of Albany, and that a few minutes after entering the hotel, defendant, carrying a silver pistol, ran back to the car where he declared, "I shot a dude."
