The respondent-Lois Gathers brought this lawsuit against the appellant-Harris Teeter Supermarket, Inc., alleging slander, assault and battery, and false imprisonment. The jury returned a verdict for Mrs. Gathers on the charges of slander and assault and battery, awarding her $10,000 in actual damages on each cause of action.
