Defendants were tried before a single jury on charges of murder (Ill. Rev. Stat. 1981, ch. 38, par. 9-1), armed robbery (Ill. Rev. Stat. 1981, ch. 38, par. 18-2), attempted murder (Ill. Rev. Stat. 1981, ch. 38, par. 8-4), and aggravated battery (Ill. Rev. Stat. 1981, ch. 38, par. 12-4). The jury was also given the instructions for voluntary manslaughter....
