BORDEN, J.

The plaintiffs are property owners who challenge the imposition on them of betterment assessments by the defendant, the town of Westport, following the construction of a municipal parking lot.1 The parking lot is located within approximately 500 feet of the respective properties of the plaintiffs. The trial court rendered judgment for the defendant. The plaintiffs appealed.
