The State of Illinois brought this action to collect $4,900 from the defendants, who had transferred and presented for payment fifteen checks drawn by the State but bearing forged endorsements by the payees. Essentially, checks with forged endorsements were cashed at currency exchanges, deposited at Merchandise National Bank of Chicago, transferred to the Federal Reserve...
