The named plaintiffs in these consolidated actions are four black individuals who were laid off in 1974 from salaried positions by defendant Polaroid Corporation in the course of a substantial cutback in the company's work force due to economic conditions. On behalf of themselves and others similarly situated, plaintiffs sued in the United States District Court for the District of Massachusetts, alleging, inter alia, that the layoffs...
