On October 12, 1981, plaintiff filed suit in the district court against the New Orleans Steamboat Company claiming personal injuries and property damage in the amount of $31,000.00. A trial was held, and on October 7, 1983, the district court rendered judgment in favor of the plaintiff in the amount of $51,333.32, including $50,000 in general damages. In his Reasons for Judgment, the trial judge found that the accident was caused solely by the negligence...
