Appellant was charged with theft by deception of an amount in excess of $2,500, a class B felony, in violation of Ark.Stat.Ann. § 41-2203 (Repl.1977). Specifically, appellant was accused by Arkansas Social Services of receiving welfare benefits in an amount in excess of $8,000 by fraud. At her trial, in which she waived a jury, a witness called by the State was asked by the prosecutor to testify to the amount of welfare benefits paid to appellant...
