In 1974 John Burns Construction Company (Burns) brought an action in the circuit court of Cook County against Interlake, Inc. (Interlake), seeking additional payment for a sewer project which, pursuant to a written contract, Burns had constructed for Interlake in 1973. Interlake paid to Burns the stated contract price of $68,117, but Burns claimed an additional $149,000 to cover the cost...
