The defendant, Henry Rankin, was arrested on March 17, 1982 and subsequently indicted with second degree murder, a violation of LSA-R.S. 14:30.1. He exercised his right to a jury trial and was found guilty as charged by a unanimous vote of the twelve member jury. Rankin was sentenced to imprisonment at hard labor for the rest of his natural life, the mandatory sentence under LSA-R.S. 14:30.1. Defendant now appeals his conviction and sentence on the basis...
