On June 1, 1982, after a hearing in open court, the trial judge accepted Welch's negotiated plea of guilty to a charge of conspiring to commit capital murder and imposed the recommended sentence of 20 years. In July, 1983, Welch filed this petition for postconviction relief under A.R. Cr.P. Rule 37. The petition was denied after a hearing at which Welch was represented by retained counsel.
