STATE v. TAYLOR

No. KA-1198.

449 So.2d 649 (1984)

STATE of Louisiana v. Ernest D. TAYLOR and Raymond T. Collins.

Court of Appeal of Louisiana, Fourth Circuit.

April 6, 1984.

Attorney(s) appearing for the Case

William J. Guste, Jr., Atty. Gen., Barbara Rutledge, Asst. Atty. Gen., Harry F. Connick, Dist. Atty., Beryl M. McSmith, Asst. Dist. Atty., New Orleans, for plaintiff-appellee.

Dwight Doskey, Orleans Indigent Defender Program, New Orleans, for defendant-appellant.

Before GULOTTA, GARRISON and BARRY, JJ.

BARRY, Judge.

Defendants Ernest Taylor and Raymond Collins were charged with theft of a ladder worth $300, LSA-R.S. 14:67. After the State rested, defendants' attorney moved for a severance and the appointment of counsel for each defendant. The court denied the motion and both defendants were found guilty by a six-person jury. On appeal defendants contend they were deprived of their constitutional right to conflict-free, effective assistance of counsel.
