¶ On December 6, 1980, at the Coxsackie Correctional Facility, defendant, along with other Hispanic inmates, had an oral confrontation with a group of black inmates. Later in the day, defendant and inmate Lonnie Brown, a black, had an argument in the prison yard which culminated in defendant stabbing Brown.
