Defendant, Alvin Troy Mack, was indicted by the East Baton Rouge Parish Grand Jury on September 16, 1981, for the August 29, 1981 second degree murder of Michael Smothers. La.R.S. 14:30.1. Trial was conducted less than a year later on Tuesday, September 7, 1982, through Friday, September 10, 1982. After deliberation, the jury returned a verdict of guilty as charged.
