Plaintiff's original complaint alleged the following:

On or about 19 February 1979 a warehouse belonging to plaintiff Coastal Chemical Corporation (hereafter Coastal), and the goods therein, were destroyed by fire. The warehouse was protected by a security system which was programmed to call various authorities in the event fire or smoke was detected by its sensors. The system failed properly to operate or to notify the authorities...
