This very difficult lawsuit began with a complaint filed on May 16, 1975, by Michael Patrick Smith and Carolyn Finnell, residents of Heritage House Nursing Home, as a civil rights action, seeking remedies under 42 U.S.C. § 1983, for alleged violations of constitutional rights.
