The defendant was found guilty of armed robbery following a jury trial in the circuit court of Sangamon County. He was convicted and sentenced to a 20-year term of imprisonment. During the defendant's preliminary hearing on the armed robbery offense, he had become unruly in court, was held in contempt and sentenced to serve six months in jail.
