FEDERICI, Justice.

On June 9, 1977, plaintiff-appellee (plaintiff) Ethel May Thompson, filed a petition for divorce against defendant-appellant (defendant) John Ross Thompson, in the District Court of Torrance County. On June 12, 1978, the divorce was granted. The trial court attempted to effect a property settlement between the parties.
