After a dispute with a desk clerk, on March 27, 1980, defendant allegedly started a fire in his room at the Imperial Court Hotel, located at 307 West 79th Street, Manhattan. Subsequent to that incident, defendant was indicted and, thereafter, was convicted by a jury of the crime of arson in the second degree (Penal Law, § 150.15).
