The question presented by this case is whether a nasogastric tube should be removed from an 84-year-old patient who is suffering from severe organic brain syndrome and a variety of serious ailments. The patient is totally dependent upon the tube for nutriment and fluids. Removal of the tube will probably result in death within a few days.
