SHEA, Justice.

The plaintiff, Clinton Henry Berube, appeals from a summary judgment entered in the Superior Court in favor of one of the defendants, Ten Talents, Incorporated (Ten Talents). The complaint alleged that the defendants were jointly and severally liable for injuries the plaintiff sustained when a vehicle struck him while he was crossing Smithfield Avenue in Pawtucket, Rhode Island, on the evening of April 7, 1978.
