After trial by jury defendant, Edward Wiatr, was convicted of driving while under the influence of intoxicating liquor (Ill. Rev. Stat. 1981, ch. 95 1/2, par. 11-501(a)(2)) and speeding (Ill. Rev. Stat. 1981, ch. 95 1/2, par. 11-601(b)). He was thereafter sentenced to a one-year term of probation, with nine days' periodic imprisonment, and a fine of $100.
