This is an appeal from a default judgment and an order denying a motion to vacate that judgment, both in favor of the defendant, Wayne T. Belisle.

Plaintiff, Reed S. MacKenzie, brought an action against Belisle for payment on a promise. After being granted an extension, Belisle mailed his answer and counterclaim to MacKenzie's attorney, Cortland J. Silver, Jr. Silver failed to file a reply to the counterclaim, and a default judgment was entered...
