In this case we issue an opinion on defendant appellant's application for leave to appeal. See GCR 1963, 806.7.

Defendant Walter J. Lawrence received a traffic ticket on November 16, 1981, in Macomb County. He pled guilty in the 40th District Court on April 21, 1982, and was ordered to pay a fine and costs of $30. Lawrence argued that the court could not compel payment from him in a medium other than gold or silver coin currently in circulation...
