Lawrence Repp was convicted of first-degree murder in the shooting and beating death of his mother, Evelyn Repp. Repp maintains the trial court erred by excluding certain psychiatric evidence in the first phase of his bifurcated trial. This psychiatric testimony, Repp asserts, was necessary to show his state of mind at the time of the murder, and its exclusion denied him the opportunity to make a proper intoxication defense.
