On June 3, 1983, following a trial of approximately four months, the jury sitting in the consolidated trial of these lawsuits returned a 1.5 million dollar verdict against Richmond police officers Clinton Mitchell, Samuel Dudkiewicz, Chief of Police Leo Garfield and the City of Richmond for the shooting death by police officers of Johnny Roman.
