Plaintiff, a longshoreman, was injured when he fell while stepping off a gangway onto a dock. He sued the dock owner, Coos Head Timber Company (Coos Head),1 and the ship owner, Sun Pacific Shipping Company (Sun Pacific). Sun Pacific cross-claimed against Coos Head for indemnity.
