Six years ago, on July 11, 1977, Edward Pugliese killed Denis Champagne on a darkened beach adjoining the Pugliese home in Northwood, New Hampshire. Petitioner has since been tried twice for manslaughter and three times for negligent homicide, in three separate trials. At each trial, the prosecution sought to prove that Pugliese threatened to kill and in fact killed Champagne because he believed that Champagne was having an affair...
