On May 14, 1981, the defendant, Edward Frank Rainey, was indicted by the Cameron Parish Grand Jury; Rainey was charged with one count of aggravated rape under LSA-R.S. 14:42. On August 26, 1982, the charge was amended to one count of sexual battery, LSA-R.S. 14:43.1, on motion of the State, and Rainey entered a plea of guilty.
