On March 14, 1980, Officer Vincent J. Bruno was dismissed from the New Orleans Police Department for having violated departmental regulations governing the conduct of police officers while on sick leave. Bruno appealed his dismissal to the Civil Service Commission of the City of New Orleans and, following lengthy trial, the Commission affirmed, finding just cause for Bruno's termination.
