CANTU, Justice.

A jury found appellant guilty of murdering his wife and assessed punishment at confinement in the Texas Department of Corrections for a term of ninety-nine years. The indictment alleged that on or about October 18, 1979, appellant intentionally and knowingly caused the death of [his wife] by shooting her with a firearm.1
