On February 20, 1981, at about 12:15 A.M., Theresa Culp, a nurse at Albany Medical Center, finished work and walked across New Scotland Avenue to her car which was located in a well-lighted parking lot. As she was about to unlock her car door, an adult male ran up behind her and fell down in front of her car, precipitating a conversation for about two minutes.
