In this workers' compensation case, the claimant, Charles Payne, sustained a job-related injury to his lower back on April 28, 1981, while employed by respondent, American Transportation Company. Claimant was initially treated by Dr. Tom Beasley, a physician selected by respondent. Dr. Beasley eventually referred appellant to Dr. Jerry L. Thomas, an orthopedic surgeon.
