The defendant, James Millard Bell, was charged by a bill of information with the armed robbery of an employee of a Gulf Majik Mart located in Shreveport, Louisiana. Initially the defendant pled not guilty to the charge, but later entered a plea of guilty in exchange for an assurance by the judge that his sentence would not exceed 10 years at hard labor.
