Petitioner was a deputy sheriff who was injured while operating a motor vehicle in the course of his employment. The injuries he sustained as a result of the accident prevented him from working for several periods of time prior to February of 1980, and from July of 1980 to the present. Petitioner continued to receive his full salary for the periods he was absent from work prior to February of 1980 by charging such periods against his accrued sick leave and vacation time....
