On January 15, 1980, Norman Phagans was charged with the armed robbery of Betty Montgomery on September 28, 1979. A jury trial was begun on March 16, 1981, ending in a mistrial on March 18. A subsequent trial, concluded on March 20, 1981, ended in a unanimous guilty verdict against the defendant. On June 1, 1981, he was sentenced to serve fifteen years at hard labor without benefit of probation, parole, or suspension...
