On December 12, 1976, plaintiff was discharged from his position with the City of Detroit, Department of Transportation (DOT). Thereafter, plaintiff filed a grievance against DOT pursuant to provisions of the collective-bargaining agreement between the DOT and defendant, plaintiff's union.
