Appellee, a 93-year-old woman, was admitted to the Washington Hospital Center for treatment of a fractured right hip. Several days later, while still on post-operative care after surgery on her right hip, she fell from her bed and fractured her left hip. Appellee sued the hospital, alleging that it had been negligent in leaving her unattended and in failing to protect her from falling out of bed. A jury returned a verdict in her favor and awarded...
