On June 24, 1980, defendant, Floyd Conner, was an inmate of the Polk County Jail awaiting trial on a charge of first-degree robbery. At approximately 9:30 a. m. defendant and another inmate fled from an outside recreational area of the jail. During the course of their flight, the prisoners approached an automobile that had just been parked.
