On August 13, 1981, the appellant, Willie Lee Carthon, alias Willie Lee Pryor, was indicted by the Grand Jury of Covington County for assault in the first degree in violation of Section 13A-6-20(a)(1) of the Code Of Alabama. On September 16, 1981 counsel was duly appointed by the court to represent the appellant. On October 19, 1981 the appellant was duly arraigned, and entered a plea of not guilty.
