The Commonwealth has appealed from an order entered in the Superior Court vacating a verdict of murder in the second degree and entering a finding of guilty of manslaughter. The Commonwealth argues that the judge lacked authority to allow the defendant's motion for reduction of the verdict, which was purportedly filed under Rule 25 (b) (2) of the Massachusetts Rules of Criminal Procedure, 378 Mass. 896 (1979).
