This is a suit for worker's compensation benefits, or, in the alternative, damages for personal injuries caused by negligence. In his original petition, plaintiff alleges that he was employed by Marshall T. Cappel, Sheriff of Rapides Parish, as a deputy sheriff assigned to the Rapides Parish Detention Center, and that while at work he slipped and fell on a catwalk and injured his back.
