Plaintiff worked for defendant from 1953 until mid-1973. He began working for defendant as an ordinary laborer but later became a skilled laborer. In 1959, he suffered a back injury which kept him off work for seven weeks. In early 1968, plaintiff complained of a burning sensation in his nose which allegedly was due to his inhalation of hydrochloric acid fumes while on the job.
