In an indictment filed in the Criminal Court of Baltimore on November 12, 1980, appellant was charged with the first degree murder of one Paul Watkins, use of a handgun in the commission of a felony or crime of violence, and unlawfully wearing, carrying, and transporting a handgun in violation of Md.
