On or about September 13, 1980, the vessel S.S. ORIENT CORAL allegedly collided with a Shell Oil Company ("Shell") platform in the Gulf of Mexico, outside the territorial waters of Louisiana. Shortly thereafter, Shell filed suit and seized the vessel. To secure the vessel's release, Steamship Mutual Underwriting Association (Bermuda), Ltd.
